Blue Mischief, 2022

Blue Mischief was exhibited as part of the Evoke Collective graduation exhibition at Bargehouse Gallery, OXO Tower Wharf, London, in July 2022.

To mirror the subject matter of the work, the display further aids in realising the movement of flight and mimicry. Through this, the viewer has to participate in their own flight path, following the staggered images in order to view them.

Displayed alongside the large prints are also a series of three small prints and a framed wing. The small images are displayed as though a specimen, with the egg further alluding to the magpie, but also participating in its own balancing act. Pinned to the wall, they mimic the wing pinned down inside the frame which it is displayed alongside.

The framed wing contrasts the unframed prints, further swapping the position of the subject and the bird.

The varied scale, once again, forces the viewer into motion, viewing from afar to take in the large scale works, and moving in closer to view the small prints.

All prints were made in the darkroom.
